Progress Monitoring
Practice Assessments - Daily Work/Labs/Practice Quizzes
Students will be assessed using a combination of a 3 (proficient), 2 (developing), 1 (beginning) scale and traditional percentage scale (0-100%). Practice assessments are scored to provide students feedback on their progress toward meeting each science standard. There will be multiple practice assessments prior to a final assessment.
Late Work: While practice assessments are not directly calculated into the report card grade, they are designed to create the foundational learning for the standard(s) being assessed through the final assessment. Students who do not complete the practice work put themselves into a position where gaps in understanding may develop, as well as develop a poor work ethic for the future. Therefore, students are expected to complete all practice assignments. If an assignment is incomplete or missing, the student is expected to turn in the work prior to the final assessment. Students will be recommended to attend Academic Make-Up Time (AMT), which occurs every Wednesday from 2:10-3:20, to finish the work if he/she needs a structured environment for work completion.
Final Assessments - Tests/Quests/Projects
Students will be assessed using a 3 (proficient), 2 (developing), 1 (beginning) scale for each standard covered in science (see FAQ regarding standards for a complete list). Final assessment scores will be used to determine each student's proficiency level for his/her report card.
Make-up: If a student is absent on testing day, the expectation is that he/she either completes the assessment in advance (if it is a planned absence) or upon return to school. A make-up time will need to be scheduled with Mrs. Heitz before/after school or during a study hall.
Retakes: Retakes will be available for students who score less than proficient (2 or 1) on a final assessment. In order for a student to complete a retake, he/she will need to take the following actions:
Grade Reporting - Infinite Campus
W-SR uses Infinite Campus as its grade reporting system. You can access the program through the website or download the app (Campus Portal) for your phone/iPad. All students should have the app Campus Portal (pictured left) installed on their iPads for easy access to grades.
Hybrid Grading: I will use a hybrid system for reporting in IC. This means that practice assessments and final assessments will both be entered as points and will reflect a traditional grade book based on percentage points. This score will provide an ongoing indication of how a student is progressing toward meeting a standard through achievement on daily work, labs, practice quizzes, and overall work completion. Additionally, the final assessments will be entered using a 3, 2, 1 scale for proficiency for each standard. This will be updated after final assessments are given for a particular standard, and this is the score you will find on the report card for the standard. If multiple final assessments are given for a standard, the final grade will be based on the score on the most recent final assessment.

Retakes: Retakes will be available for students who score less than proficient (2 or 1) on a final assessment. In order for a student to complete a retake, he/she will need to take the following actions:
- Fill out a “Retake Form” and turn it in to Mrs. Heitz to be approved. If you are in need of a retake form, either ask Mrs. Heitz for one or download one here.
- All practice assignments (including the study guide) leading up to the test must be completed with quality and turn in to Mrs. Heitz.
- Test corrections made, accompanied with documentation of the resource(s) you used to determine the correct answer.
- Schedule and attend a meeting with Mrs. Heitz to discuss areas that you struggled with on the assessment. If you schedule a meeting and do not show up, you forfeit (give up) your right to retake your test.
- Get a parent signature acknowledging that you are requesting a retake and that all of the other requirements for the retake have been completed.
